Are you the lucky parent of a t(w)een?
I raised six of them, and I'm probably not telling you anything new when I say the days can swing from absolute joy and laughter, to tears and door slamming, and back again...sometimes many times in the same day!
It's so hard to watch our beautiful, talented, smart, capable children struggle through self-doubt and insecurities, stuff we wish we could magically make better for them. And then factor in the extra pressure of social media, and it's no wonder our kids are overwhelmed with self-doubt.
Imagine a custom magazine filled with beautiful pictures of your child, and included in the magazine a letter from you, from his/her favorite teacher, from a favorite aunt, or even a best friend!
Youngwomenshealth.org states, "The effects of body image on self-esteem can be especially powerful during the teenage years. Although it’s perfectly normal to have negative thoughts and feelings towards yourself once in a while, finding ways to be positive is the key to building a healthy body image and positive self-esteem."
Kidshealth.org offers the following tips to help our kids improve their self-esteem:
Be with people who treat you well
Say helpful things to yourself
Accept what's not perfect
Set goals and work toward them
Focus on what goes well
Give and help
Several years ago, I began offering "8th grade portrait sessions." This idea sprang from the fact that I had a daughter in 8th grade who was suffering some self-esteem issues. I wanted her to see her how *I* saw her. I wanted her to see how truly amazing she was to me. So I took some pictures of her, and SHE WAS IN AWE! She could not believe how beautiful she looked. So she shared them with her friends, and then told me her friends wanted some pictures too, and asked if I could take 8th grade pictures of her friends as well. The overwhelming response by the parents of these children was, "Wow! Thank you for showing my daughter how beautiful she is. This is just what she needed to help her self-confidence and self-esteem!" Just a picture was able to do this for a child!
Branching off of the 8th Grade Portrait Session, I am now excited to offer: The Me! Project: A Tween and Teen Self-Esteem Portrait Session for 10-14 year olds of any gender. These sessions are designed to help bolster your child's self-confidence and self-esteem by empowering them to see just how truly beautiful/handsome they are. Each Me! Project Portrait Session includes a complimentary print magazine with 9 pictures from your child's portrait session, along with a personal letter written by YOU to your child. (You can also include notes/letters from grandparents, a favorite teacher or aunt, or even a best friend.)
Imagine how amazing this beautiful keepsake magazine will be for your teen or tween!
If you're interested in learning more about The Me! Project, please visit my website, and then get in touch with me. I'm currently planning to offer these special sessions only during the months of March and April 2022.
Be well. And Happy New Year!
x,
~Lisa
